In honor of Will Keith Kellogg's sesquicentennial birthday, April 7, 2010, a collaborative effort of our outstanding local arts and culture venues have come together to showcase their talents and beauty to celebrate his legacy throughout the year. The community events begin in March with a tribute issue of Scene Magazine, a Battle Creek Symphony tribute to W.K. that will include an unveiling of a public art sculpture model that embodies grain, W.K. Kellogg's commitment to children, and his global perspective.
As the celebrations continue throughout the year, residents and visitors alike will find opportunities to reflect on the many ways W.K. Kellogg made a lasting impact on not only our community, but on the world, as well.
From his entrepreneurial beginnings, W.K. built a global company that now enjoys 13 billion dollars in annual sales. The company's success allowed him to establish the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in 1930, continuing W.K.'s philosophy of investing his money in people. A variety of films depicting many aspects of W.K.'s remarkable life will appear on AccessVision throughout the month of April. Also in April are Battle Creek Art Center activities, self guided tours of Oak Hill Cemetery, W.K.'s final resting place, a special Battle Creek Rotary presentation about W.K. Kellogg, tours of the W.K. Manor House at Gull Lake, a special program at Kimball House, and a host of other activities.
